Tomorrow: Marathon.

My bag is packed, my bib number is pinned to my shirt, and I think I’m ready to run—and enjoy—the New York City Marathon tomorrow. Thank you to all the readers who have offered encouragement and support. I appreciate it. :)

If you’d like, you can backtrack over the past year through intueri and read how I got into this marathon business:

Goals for 2009: “Figure out a way to continue to contribute to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, since I won’t be participating in the walk-a-thon in Seattle this year. (The New York City Marathon is an option, but I am not confident that I can tolerate the training for a marathon.)”

On Running for More Than One Hour: “Against my better judgment, though, I did toss my name into the lottery to run the 2009 New York City Marathon. It was, after all, a lottery—I was leaving the decision to luck as to whether I would participate in a 26.2-mile (42-kilometer) race.”

The Movie Theatre: “I want to remain faithful to the marathon training program, though today was one of those days where my mind was cranking out thoughts like, “This whole marathon business is just dumb.””

Under-elaborated Ideas: “Marathon training is stupid. Okay, fine, it’s not, but I think I’m hitting that point where my patience is really getting tried. I ran 18 miles this weekend. It took me about 3 hours and 15 minutes. That’s a long time.”

On Running 20 Miles: “Who knows, right? I might find marathon day “amazing” and “unbelievable” and “the best thing I’ve ever experienced”. However, I can tell you now that it feels like my training schedule has control over me, versus me over it.”

Notice: “Marathon training is taking up (too much of my) time. Thankfully, the taper is approaching.”

Link-o-Rama (XII): “Every day, at least one person asks me, “So… how is marathon training going?” And then they all proceed to giggle when I continuously graze on food all day.”

There are also the posts I put up earlier this week.

Whimsical and subjective report about the marathon experience to follow after I run it. And survive it.
